چکیده
Examination.-The visual acuity was 6/9 in each eye. Refraction under atropine revealed slight hypermetropia. Both fundi were normal. The movements of the eyes were full and the eyes were orthophoric on cover test. The action of the left superior rectus was normal. The child was attempting to correct the lid deformity by elevating the eyebrow. There was no evidence of jawwinking (Marcus Gunn phenomenon). The pupils were of equal size and there was no evidence of enophthalmos. The right eye looked very prominent because of the marked retraction of the upper lid (Fig. 1).

Evaluation and management of unilateral ptosis and avoiding contralateral ptosis.
Treating unilateral ptosis can be challenging and a proper preoperative evaluation may help prevent unexpected outcomes on the contralateral lid. Preoperative evaluation should include testing for Hering's law, which remains useful in understanding the phenomenon of induced contralateral eyelid retraction in the context of ptosis. Approximately 10% to 20% of patients with unilateral ptosis have...

متن کاملTransient eyelid retraction in myasthenia gravis.
Three patients with myasthenia gravis had transient retraction of the upper eyelids which usually followed prolonged upgaze and which persisted for many seconds. This could result from post-tetanic facilitation, myotonia, or a transient contracture. Retraction of this type is to be distinguished from both the long-standing unilateral retraction associated with ptosis of the contralateral eyelid...
متن کاملLid Retraction in the Non-paretic Eye in Acquired Ophthalmoplegia.
PARADOXICAL lid retraction of the ptotic lid on occlusion of the sound eye and several other synkinetic oculopalpebral phenomena are described in the literature in relation to ophthalmoplegia, congenital as well as acquired (Lewallen, 1958; Walsh, 1957). Fuchs's phenomenon of lid retraction on lateral movement, the pseudo-Graefe phenomenon with depression and lid retraction on elevation, are al...
متن کاملCorrection of Anophthalmic Enophthalmos with a Three-Staged Procedure: Two Case Reports
Surgical correction of an anophthalmic enophthalmos secondary to inappropriate repair of the eye socket involves several difficult aesthetic issues associated with long-term use of a poorly fitting prosthetic eye. In this paper, we present two cases of anophthalmic enophthalmos. During the treatment of the first patient, unsatisfactory cosmetic problems including lower eyelid retraction, hypogl...
